Namatjira - Alice Springs and Ntaria (Hermansburg), Northern Territory
The Namatjira project is many things, including a creative community development project, an original theatrical work, an accompanying watercolour exhibition and a documentary. It is also a celebration of the acclaimed watercolour artist Albert Namatjira’s life and legacy.
We work with with the Namatjira family on the project, in Western Aranda country Central Australia, and with Ngurratjuta Art Centre, and many community, government and business partners.
The theatre show and exhibition toured Australia in 2010, 2011 and 2012, before heading overseas to London in November 2013.
The Namatjira project was officially launched on the 8th of August 2009, marking 50 years since internationally acclaimed watercolour artist and Western Aranda man, Albert Namatjira, passed away. It emerged as a legacy to the Ngapartji Ngapartji project, through which we have worked with Indigenous communities in the Central Desert region since 2005.
