An exhibition celebrating the 25 year creative partnership between Australia’s most prolific portrait artist and Big hART. A collection of dynamic and moving realist portraits painted on stage, in rehearsals, in homes, at workplaces and on country by Alf Hannaford to celebrate and elevate the extraordinary people at the centre of Big hART’s work.

Portraits include members of Albert Namatjira’s family; Pitjantjatjara actor Trevor Jamieson; Aboriginal young people and Elders from the Pilbara; TAS Seafarers from the Blue Angel project; housing commission residents from Northcott in Sydney and young people from the West Coast of Tasmania and some NW TAS Coast Scenery.

Bulla Midhong, meaning 1 and 2 is 3, is an album launch and concert of songs and stories, interweaving whale stories from Eden, stories of Gulaga (mother mountain) from Wallaga Lake, and the black cockatoo story from Nowra. Through music, narration and exquisite projected image, Bulla Midhong celebrates a deep connection to place and continues a long lineage of story-sharing across Yuin country. Created with local young people, artists and cultural mentors over two years, this special event follows the success of the Bulla Midhong events held in 2023, where we sat at the feet of three mountains, sharing three stories, connecting three communities.

Tjaabi - Flood Country is a celebration of country and culture in song, word and vision.

Tjaabi - Flood Country features the tjaabi song form, which is unique to the First Nations peoples of the Pilbara. A tjaabi is like a musical haiku, with crisp poetic language, capturing stories, dreams, thoughts and moments, which can be funny, profound or wistful.

Patrick entwines this tjaabi tradition with his powerful family story in this beautifully rendered journey of cultural and personal discovery.

We are excited to welcome visitors to view the exhibition of our two digital artworks, Jarda Bura, Gurri Bura Gurri Ngarli & Wangaba Barnigu Wangabarni. Commissioned for WA Museum Boola Bardip in consultation with AACHWA, the two films will be on rotation through the screens on Francis Street and in the museum itself.

Filmed and created on Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi country in the Pilbara, Jarda Bura, Gurri Bura, Jarda Ngarli, Gurri Ngarli (Senior Woman, Young Woman) and Wangaba Barnigu, Wangabarni (Staying Alive) are two new digital artworks produced by Big hART and women from the community of Roebourne. These artworks are inspired by the enduring power of women’s relationships, and the significance of connections between generations that underpins a joyful exchange of strength and knowledge.

Skate of Mind is a free, all ages, beginner friendly skateboarding and arts event that promotes community, belonging and positive mental and physical well-being.

The event includes an afternoon of free skating, demos, skate comps and giveaways that will be accompanied by both live and recorded music and visuals created by young people and professional artists. The event will culminate in the presentation of a short skateboarding, musical, and projection work created by Big hART with professional and semi-professional skateboarders and young people.

A new space for community, creativity and discovery in the North West of Tasmania. Housed in the new Wynyard Yacht Club multi-use building at the Wynyard waterfront, Watershed's program is driven by a connection to place and the seasons. Enjoy live music, film, seasonal feasts, workshops for the whole community and more.

Future focused digital learning, grounded in community. NEO-Learning is a new platform which celebrates living culture and is co-created with young people of Roebourne. It provides quality First Nations digital arts content, resources and live virtual experiences for primary schools and students across Australia.
