Artisan Social Enterprise

Wynyard | Tasmania

Artisan is an incubation hub, situated on an industrial estate on the North West Coast of Lutruwita/Tasmania. The project supports for-purpose enterprises and artisans.

Artisan reduces costs and provides marketing and business mentoring to assist these enterprises achieve viability quickly. They are supported on-site until they can operate viably and independently. In exchange, the enterprises agree to provide innovative pathways for local young people who are disengaged from mainstream education, employment, literacies, and life-long learning.

Artisan aligns with brand Tasmania. It takes a regional development approach to supporting local artisans interested in specialty skills such as: shipwrights, stone masons, blacksmiths, timber crafts, arbory and habitat, First Nations knowledge, quality care workers, digital designers, biodiversity and soils, events, skateboarders and chefs.

By mentoring a select group of skilled workers and start-ups, Artisan helps rebuild disappearing skills and trades and supports emerging careers. Artisan is community-centered. It strengthens a local desire for lifelong learning, and generating new opportunities for people-centred work.

Artisan ensures a legacy of new opportunities, entry points, and educational pathways for participants who lack opportunities, whilst building inclusivity into local small businesses.
